Biography
Álvaro de Santiago grew up in Bern and completed his medical studies from 2012 to 2018 at the Universities of Lausanne and Bern. In 2019, he earned his doctorate at the University of Bern under the supervision of Prof. Dr. med. T. Pabst. As part of his external year, he worked for one year in internal medicine at Tiefenau Hospital. He then began his specialized training in ophthalmology at the Jules-Gonin University Hospital in Lausanne under Prof. Dr. med. T. J. Wolfensberger and continued it at the University Hospital Inselspital in Bern under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. med. S. Wolf and Prof. Dr. Dr. med. M. Zinkernagel. He passed the FEBO specialist examination in May 2024. Since August 2024, Álvaro de Santiago has been part of the team at the Bern Eye Clinic and also works at the Bern Eye Center branch.
